THE ADIRONDACK VISITOR INTERPRETIVE CENTER (VIC)THE ADIRONDACK VISITOR INTERPRETIVE CENTER (VIC)
Walk, ski or snowshoe the VIC's extensive well-marked trail system, and take in the views of water, mountains and wildlife. The VIC also offers exhibitions, classes, workshops, and festivals, that provide entertaining environmental education for all ages. The VIC is the site of the annual Wildlife Festival, held each July, and is home to the first butterfly house in the United States devoted exclusively to native species. The VIC is open year-round, and is located on RT 30, 1 mile north of Paul Smith's College; the phone number is 518-327-3000.

THE ROBERT LOUIS STEVENSON COTTAGETHE ROBERT LOUIS STEVENSON COTTAGE
The cabin that the renowned author of Treasure Island and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde called home in the winter of 1887-88, has been carefully preserved as the author left it; inviting the visitor into the world of this master storyteller. The cottage, open daily except Monday from July 1 through Columbus Day, is located on Stevenson Lane, at the northeastern end of Main Street. Group Rates. Call 891-1990 for more information. THE UNION DEPOTTHE UNION DEPOT
Historic Saranac Lake operates the newly rehabilitated train depot as a transportation, recreation, tourist and community center. The Union Depot, so called because it served the combined operations of two railroads, was built in 1904. Passengers came to town for tuberculosis treatment and for recreation in the surrounding lakes, forests and mountains. Depot St. Saranac Lake, 518-891-0971. 2000 saw the return of train service when The Adirondack Scenic Railroad began summer service.

CHARLES DICKERT MEMORIAL WILDLIFE MUSEUM CHARLES DICKERT MEMORIAL WILDLIFE MUSEUM
This wildlife museum highlights the work of Charles Dickert, the master taxidermist, who practiced his craft in Saranac Lake for many decades. The Museum, located in the Saranac Lake Free Library at 100 Main Street, is open weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during July and August. Call 518-891-4190 for more information.

SIX NATIONS INDIAN MUSEUMSIX NATIONS INDIAN MUSEUM
The past and present cultures, life styles, arts, crafts, government and philosophies of the Six Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy-the Mohawks, Senecas, Onondagas, Oneidas, Cayugas and Tuscaroras-come vividly to life through the artifacts and exhibits on display in this one of a kind museum. Open Tuesday through Sunday, from July 1 to Labor Day, and by appointment in June and September. ADIRONDACK MUSEUM ADIRONDACK MUSEUM
Praised as "the best of its kind in the world" by the New York Times, the Adirondack Museum (Blue Mountain Lake) tells the stories of how people lived, worked and played in the Adirondacks - the place where America's idea of wilderness was born. Historic structures include rustic cottages, a log hotel, hunting cabin and one-room schoolhouse. Outdoor and indoor exhibits, special programs, demonstrations, and workshops explore logging, boats and boating, outdoor recreation, mining, transportation, rustic craftsmanship, and fine arts. Experience the Adirondack environment and magnificent views from the museum's landscaped grounds and gardens. An exciting new Visitor Orientation Center and Museum Store welcomes visitors, and a cheerful cafe offer light fare and a spectacular view overlooking Blue Mountain Lake. HIGH FALLS GORGE HIGH FALLS GORGE
This incredible natural attraction offers self guided scenic tours along the Ausable River as it cascades over three waterfalls, plunging 700 feet between high granite cliffs. Located on NY Route 86 between Lake Placid and Wilmington, the Gorge is open daily, all year. Winter activities include: snowshoe center, downhill ski and snowboard rentals, and cross country ski rentals. The phone number is 518-946-2278.

THE OLYMPIC REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (ORDA)THE OLYMPIC REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (ORDA)
This New York State agency operates the facilities built for the XIII Olympic Winter Games, held in Lake Placid in 1980. These include the Olympic Center, which houses three ice skating rinks and the Lake Placid Winter Olympic Museum; the Olympic Sports Complex at Mount Van Hoevenberg, site of the biathlon range and the only bobsled and luge runs in the U.S., offering bobsled rides both in winter and summer; The Olympic Jumping Complex, home to the Kodak Sports Park Freestyle Jumps and the 90- and 120-meter ski jumps (with an observation platform atop the 120-meter tower). Whiteface Mountain, where the Veterans Memorial Highway winds its way to the summit, and the Chairlift Skyride carries visitors 3/4 of the way up the Olympic Mountain. LAKE PLACID CENTER OF THE ARTS LAKE PLACID CENTER OF THE ARTS
A large arts center that contains a fine arts gallery showcasing regional and national artists, as well as a 355 seat performing arts theater which offers performances in dance, music, film, and theater. Workshops and classes are also available. The phone number is 518-523-2512.

NEW YORK STATE FISH HATCHERYNEW YORK STATE FISH HATCHERY
This state-of-the-art facility replicates natural conditions and raises landlocked Atlantic Salmon for stocking lakes statewide. Visitors can see the progression from fries to yearlings. The Hatchery is located on RT 30 in Lake Clear Junction, and is open weekdays, year-round, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The phone number is 518-891-3358.

NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM OF THE ADIRONDACKSNATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM OF THE ADIRONDACKS
The Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks is currently under development. It will be an educational facility as well as a tourism attraction to educate, inspire and intrigue its visitors about the natural resources and the Adirondacks. The phone number is 518-359-2533.

ADIRONDACK JOHN BROWN FARMJOHN BROWN FARM STATE HISTORIC SITE
The grave of famed abolitionist John Brown is located on the farm he worked in the years preceding the fateful 1859 raid on the Harper's Ferry Arsenal. In addition to his restored home, illustrated displays detail Brown's emergence as one of the country's most passionate opponents of slavery. The farm's scenic setting also offers nature trails. John Brown's grave and farm are located just off RT 73 in Lake Placid, open from late May to October. The hours are Wednesday through Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Call 518-523-3900 for more information.
