01/02...At Dewey Mountain Graymont Tuesday Night Races. Sponsored by Graymont.Cross country ski races for all ages. Races will be held every Tuesday night until the first week of March.Races time youth races start at 6:30, adults at 7:00pm. Entry fee is $5.00

01/03...HYPOTHERMIA AND FROSTBITE IN THE BACKCOUNTRY presented by SARNAK (Search & Rescue of the Northern Adirondacks & the Forest Rangers) at 6pm at the DEC Headquarters in Ray Brook.First Floor Conference Room.Dr.Desiderio will address the causes, prevention and treatment of Hypothermia and Frostbite in a wilderness setting.For more information please contact MAry.A Brown at 891-2709.

01/03...To Russia with Love at 7pm at Saranac Village at Will Rogers.The Women's College Scholarship Club will host Jen Kretser, Education Director for the Adirondack Mountain Club, as she presents a program on her travels to Russia. 01/03 THRU 6...ELEMENTAL JURIED ART SHOW: Artist drop-off from 1 - 5p.m. at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts. Artists of all media are invited to enter up to two pieces for this juried show. 01/04...Dewey Mountain Youth Ski League sponsored by Y106.3. A nine week youth ski league for ages 5 and up. 01/10...LEGISLATIVE BREAKFAST: 7:30 a.m. The Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Saranac Lake Rotary Club will be hosting a Legislative Breakfast at Hotel Saranac. Scheduled to participate are Senator Betty Little and Assemblywomen Teresa Sayward and Janet Duprey. Issues to be address include property taxes and assessments; broadband and rising costs of health care. Fee is $12 for Chamber and Rotary members and $15 for general public. CLASSES & WORKSHOPS AT THE LPCA:

Weave a Rayon or Chenille Scarf, instructed by Donna Foley, will be offered on two separate occasions throughout the season. Start your weekend weaving a beautiful chenille or rayon scarf. No previous experience necessary, youÕll learn the basics in this fun class. The looms will be already warped in either black with bright accents or blues, etcÉ Indicate color preference when you sign up. Classes meet in the LPCA Addition Studio. Section B meets Friday, January 19 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm and Saturday, January 20 from 10am to 3pm. The class fee is $75 per section, plus a materials cost of $35. Students should bring a snack/lunch.

Learn to Spin, instructed by Donna Foley, will meet on Friday, January 5 from 6pm to 8pm and Saturday, January 6 from 11am to 3pm at the LPCA Addition Studio.

Learn to Weave with Donna Foley is designed for the novice. Devote a week to learning the basics of weaving in a fun and friendly atmosphere. YouÕll weave on various looms and learn several weaving structures. Students will work on scarves, tablerunners and hotpads and will leave with a good understanding of the process and some great finished projects youÕll be proud to say you made! The workshop meets on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, January 8, 10 and 12 from 6pm to 9pm and Saturday, January 13 from 11am to 3pm. The fee is $100, plus a materials cost of $40.

Non-Judgmental Drawing for Beginners, instructed by Diane Leifheit will be offered in the early winter months. The workshop meets Tuesdays, February 6, 13, 20 and 27 from 6 pm to 8:30 pm in the LPCA Silkscreen Studio.
